Fifteen years ago, PennFuture was formed by the Heinz
Endowments and the Pew Charitable Trusts and a grand experiment took off. The
challenge was thrown down: Could a new
organization — statewide, with lawyers, organizers, policy experts,
communication professionals and environmental specialists — lead the way in
making Pennsylvania a model for a new green economy? And could it do so in a manner different than how environmental causes had previously been advanced?
Well, 15 years later, PennFuture has helped transform the
Pennsylvania legislative landscape and become a key player on energy and
environmental issues. We've been embraced by terrific partners including the
National Wildlife Federation, which selected us as their state affiliate in Pennsylvania. We're also proud to have a record
of 15 years of statewide environmental advocacy with an unparalleled record
of success and achievement.
So, where do we go from here?
Well, first we're taking a moment to celebrate! We're hosting
a special evening on Wednesday, September 25 at Char's Tracy Mansion in Harrisburg, a stunning, environmentally-friendly restaurant overlooking the
Susquehanna River and owned by our long-time supporter and board vice chair, Char
Magaro.
Joining us for the evening are terrific friends including climate expert Dr. Michael Mann and forensic
psychiatrist (and National Wildlife Federation board member) Dr. Lise Van
Susteren. They'll be doing some myth-busting, giving everyone an entertaining and informative look at The Science and Psychology of Climate Change while turning up the heat on the alarming state
of our climate. Dr. Mann will be presented with the 2013
Conservation Science Award by the Nation Wildlife Federation at the close of the evening.
This is a special event you won't want to
miss, and proceeds from the evening
will benefit PennFuture's environmentally diverse programming, education and
community initiatives. Contact me, Susanne Whitehead, at whitehead [at] pennfuture [dot] org to reserve your seat at the table.
